MENTORING...Make a special connection with one of our
residents that will help prepare them for their future.

Webster House is working to provide our residents with an adult mentor from the wider community. This program exists to address the real needs of the older children currently residing at the home.

Over the years it has become increasingly clear that even with supports provided by the home, some of the children still struggle when it comes time to move out on their own. These needs center mostly on areas concerning guidance and community supports. Too often the child has minimal resources available to them. Decision-making is all important yet there isn't anyone available to process their concerns with them. So a decision is made without sufficient thought and insight and usually results are not positive.

When one thinks back on their own lives it is safe to assume that the supports were there, in place and they added a layer of security to us as we ventured out. We knew we could take some expected risk because help and advice was a phone call away. That is precisely the service we will be providing, for the children we will be working with. The Mentor will become another identifiable resource for them to access when in need. They can be the friend, the voice of reason, their source of comfort. In short we are offering them a solid, stable relationship, which will hopefully be a beneficial exchange for all involved.
